A tip from your Librarians

Through five simple practicesTalk, Sing, Read, Write, and Play every day  you can help build a child’s foundation for reading success and Kindergarten readiness.

Talk – the more we talk to and with children, the more they learn about language and their world.

Sing – singing develops rhyming skills, pre-reading skills and makes use of the incredible teaching tool of music!

Read – reading builds vocabulary and storytelling. It introduces children to wonderful words, beautiful illustrations and provides a doorway to the world around them.

Write/Draw – drawing and scribbling give children practice with writing tools. They also spark a child’s creativity and artistic expression.

Play – through play, children explore, experiment, build social skills and practice symbolic thinking.
